Into the Woods - an AWOL Dance production
Tuesday, May 8th, 2007
In preparation for an upcoming event, AWOL Dance Collective asked us to do a photoshoot for their event collateral. The setup of this particular photoshoot was quite elaborate and proper planning was needed. They told us the event theme was jungle or forest inspired and that they had already picked out a location. Forty-five minutes of driving later we arrived at our stop. The backdrop was a massive forrest on a gorgeous piece of property in Wilsonville, Oregon. Nestled between the trees and ground ferns stretched tightly woven fisherman’s net and heavy wire cables. This continued across the horizon stretching from tree trunk to tree trunk and cascading from tier to tier creating a fotress-like environment. It looked like something out of the Ewok Village (for all those Jedis out there). Needless to say we were extremely impressed.
Now the only problem was - “how do we light up the forest?” There is no way standard studio lighting would work in this situation. There was no electricity for miles (or what seemed to be miles - slight embellishment here). We needed to be portable and flexible enough to position ourselves in the ever-changing landscape of the forest floor.
So what did we do? We called up our friends at Pro Photo Supply of course. They helped us assemble a portable strobe system that rivaled our studio equipment. Complete with lights, cables, battery backs, and some awesome diffusers. The results were amazing!
Make sure to check out AWOL’s upcoming event - stay tuned for more information.
