Oregon Bride Magazine & Dee’s Studio Ltd.

Monday, May 21st, 2007
“For the discerning brides, let the fun begin!”

Dee’s Studio of Gresham, Oregon asked us to layout an advertisement that would be featured in the Oregon Bride Magazine. The advertisement was a full color 1/3 page ad in CMYK. Susie, of Dee’s Studio Ltd., wanted to focus on the many facets of wedding attire that they carry in the store. We wanted to highlight the bride, the bridemaids, the mothers, the flower girls and of course, the accessories that go along with each.

We gathered together stock imagery from the various bridal vendors including Maggie Sottero, Raylia Designs, Bill Levkoff, Sweetie Pie, and Coloriffics. We prepared the formal design and natural color palette to compliment the fall season when the advertisement is scheduled to be released. Upon approval of the ad, we were delighted to be asked to set up a new website domain. Check them out online at www.deesstudio.net and also in the Fall/Winter Oregon Bride Magazine.

We are excited to announce the launch of the new Versatile Hangers website. Jurrae Lewis, Vice President of Logistical Support, asked us to set up a MIVA Merchant Shopping Cart so that their partners would be able to place orders online. The project was a complete success! A few months later we started talking about doing a web re-design, complete with web standards compliant XHTML and CSS layout and search engine optimized content. We also presented a few new logo designs to encapsulate this new overhaul and they loved it!

If you are ever in need of some quality earth friendly new or recycled hangers - give Versatile Hangers a call!

Into the Woods - an AWOL Dance production

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

awol_dance_02In preparation for an upcoming event, AWOL Dance Collective asked us to do a photoshoot for their event collateral. The setup of this particular photoshoot was quite elaborate and proper planning was needed. They told us the event theme was jungle or forest inspired and that they had already picked out a location. Forty-five minutes of driving later we arrived at our stop. The backdrop was a massive forrest on a gorgeous piece of property in Wilsonville, Oregon. Nestled between the trees and ground ferns stretched tightly woven fisherman’s net and heavy wire cables. This continued across the horizon stretching from tree trunk to tree trunk and cascading from tier to tier creating a fotress-like environment. It looked like something out of the Ewok Village (for all those Jedis out there). Needless to say we were extremely impressed.

Now the only problem was - “how do we light up the forest?” There is no way standard studio lighting would work in this situation. There was no electricity for miles (or what seemed to be miles - slight embellishment here). We needed to be portable and flexible enough to position ourselves in the ever-changing landscape of the forest floor.

So what did we do? We called up our friends at Pro Photo Supply of course. They helped us assemble a portable strobe system that rivaled our studio equipment. Complete with lights, cables, battery backs, and some awesome diffusers. The results were amazing!

Make sure to check out AWOL’s upcoming event - stay tuned for more information.

Soap Company Gets Tuff

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

We recently met up with Andrea from Tuff Betty Soaps to discuss a graphic design project and possibly a little more. She explained that her company (based here in Portland, Oregon), was interested in doing a website re-design. She continued to describe the theme of her branding - 1940s, women workers, vintage nostalgia. It was time to get down and dirty - pun intended.
Before we even touched our sketch books and Wacom tablets, we had to collect a few items from Andrea such as her company logo and other such collateral. We then scoured the net, browsed photo libraries and had a visit to Boarders (shhh - that’s an industry secret). We came up with a few inspired designs and with the help of Andrea, herself, we came up with something that looked similar to this:

Tuff Betty Soap

In the next couple of weeks, we look forward to integrating this new design into the new Tuff Betty website.
